As stoic as it is sedentary, the Crystal Reptile stores excess energy year round in the nutrient-dense crystal formation on its back in preparation for its normally long hibernation.
Field notes
In the past, these crystals were harvested, refined, and used as an exotic, salty, meaty food additive known as Cryspice. Unfortunately, the reptiles didn't live long after harvest, so I'm glad it's illegal now.
